CONSUMPTION OF ENERGY AND RESOURCES
In 2013, the energy consumed in producing every 10,000 yuan of GDP dropped by 5.12% compared with the previous year, and the volume of water consumed dropped 13.2%, achieving the "double decrease" goal, which was evidence of the progress in economic restructuring.
SAVING ENERGY AND REDUCING EMISSION
In 2013, the city more than fulfilled its goal of emission reduction of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and ammonia nitrogen. The IV diesel is widely used. About 30,000 seriously polluting vehicles were weeded out, which is 1.5 times that in 2012. Over 6,000 new energy vehicles hit the roads, making the city ahead of the rest cities in the world. Shenzhen has become the first Chinese city to launch carbon emission permits trade, with 40% of the total emission permits traded on the trading platform. Shenzhen becomes the largest market for carbon emission permits trade in China.
GREEN LIFESTYLE
In 2013, 13.7 million square meters of energy-efficient buildings were completed in Shenzhen, adding up to 84.2 million square meters. Environmental-friendly buildings totaling 4.53 million square meters were constructed in the same year. By the end of 2013, 640,000 tons of energy were saved, up 23% from 2012; 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours were saved and 1.56 million tons of carbon dioxide were reduced. Energy saved through energy-efficient buildings reached 3.57 million tons, which equaled to 11.04 billion kilowatt-hour and helped reduce 9.23 million tons of carbon dioxide.
Shenzhen is also speeding up its efforts in building an ecologically livable city by planting more trees and upgrading its environment. Landscape forests measuring 124 kilometers and 35,600 hectares will be added and 80 parks have been built or renovated.
