ATAHK reads from Shenzhen Daily on April 22, 2016 that SEVERAL European countries have decided to set up visa centers in Shenzhen, the Shenzhen Municipal Foreign Affairs Office said Thursday.
Three countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Germany, started accepting visa applications in Shenzhen last week.
Several other countries, including Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Greece, Italy and Belgium, plan to accept visa applications soon. Some countries will start to offer the service at a new visa center in Shenzhen this month.
Non-Chinese nationals can use the center only with evidence of an emergency.
A staff member surnamed Zhan from the visa affairs office of the city’s foreign affairs office said their office is responsible for issuing certifying documents.
The new visa center is located in Great China International Exchange Square on Fuhua No. 1 Road, Futian District.
Several government departments in Shenzhen said that many European countries are paying more attention to the Chinese market and becoming more interested in Shenzhen.
There has also been a push for more direct flights from Shenzhen to Europe.
Sheng Lin, deputy general manager from the Pearl River Delta sales center of Shenzhen Airlines, said the opening of the visa center is good news for Shenzhen residents.
“It takes about 30 days for a visa to be issued and all applicants need to travel to Guangzhou to have their fingerprints recorded,” said Lin.
Lin said sales for the first direct flight from Shenzhen to Europe on May 20 started last Friday. More than half of all tickets flying before the end of June were sold.
“More than 90 percent of the seats were taken for the flight from Shenzhen to Frankfurt and over 70 percent of all business-class seats were sold,” said Lin.
