Mainland China Residence Permit Application

Follows the State Council’s recent announcement of Management Rules for Residents of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau (THKM) who apply for a new mainland residence permit, from September 1, 2018 onwards, residents of THKM will be able to enjoy relaxed residence permit privileges in mainland China. The new rules make it easier for THKM residents to work, study, live, and travel in mainland China.

 

Who Can Apply?

Not every THKM resident can apply for the new mainland residence permit - only those who have been legally working, living, or studying in mainland China for at least half a year can apply. For THKM residents who are under 16 years old, their guardians can apply for the mainland China residence permit on their behalf.

 

How to Apply?

THKM residents who would like to apply for the mainland residence permit should prepare and submit relevant application materials to the local public security bureau or the household registration office designated by the local public security bureau. If accepted, the bureau will issue the residence permit within 20 working days from the date of application. In cases where transportation is inconvenient, the processing period could be extended by up to 10 working days.

Required Information

(1) Valid Entry-exit documents;

(2) Recent photo receipt;

(3)Application form;

(4) Proof material for residential address.

The Mainland Residence Permit is valid for five years. Upon expiry, it can be renewed at the bureau in charge.

 

Public Services to be Granted:

(1) Compulsory education;

(2) Basic public employment service;
(3) Basic public health service;
(4) Public cultural sports service;
(5) Legal aid and other legal services;
(6) Other basic public services stipulated.

 

Conveniences to be Enjoyed:

1) Take domestic flights, trains or other vehicles;
(2) Hotel lodging;
(3) Banking, insurance, securities, futures, and other financial services;
(4) Registering motor vehicle application in resident city;
(5) Applying for motor vehicle driving license in resident city;
(6) Participating in vocational qualification examination;
(7) Registering for family planning services in resident city;
(8) Other conveniences stipulated in the state and resident city;
