Work permit as the name indicates is the permission granted by the government of a country for a worker from a foreign nation to work in their country for a specified duration.  

One does not need a work permit to get into China. To enter China, one needs only a visa. The visa can be single entry or multiple. One can only obtain a multiple entry visa valid for a year if he/her has a work permit. Without the work permit, one can only get a single entry or two-entry visa. Even in Hong Kong, it takes three days or more to get the visa and it cost about USD 20 for a single entry visa. (note: Single entry visa to China costs USD 50 if obtained in U.S.) With the work permit, one can get a multiple entry visa which will give the teacher a lot more freedom going in and out of China.

Also, one needs a work permit to work legally in China. and stay in China for process. 

Documents needed to apply for the work permit in Guangzhou

1. Notarized and endorsed non-criminal records certificate.
2. Notarized and endorsed highest academic degree certificate and original academic certificate.
3. Notarized and endorsed professional qualification certificate (if any, like accounting certificate )
4. Related work experience (or called employment) verification letter for at least 2 years .
5. Recently taken and valid two-inchbareheaded and full-faced certificate photo with white background.
6. Valid official health report original.
7. Valid passport original. 
8. Labor contract and offer of employment original. 
9. Business license original, stamp of GZ company. 
10. Original Lease of the office and record certification 
11. Legal representative and contact person’s ID copy and contacts.
