Bonded Logistics
Guangzhou has five customs-supervised special areas, namely, the Nansha Bonded Port Area, Baiyun Airport Integrated Bonded Zone, Guangzhou Free Trade Zone, Guangzhou Export Processing Zone, and Guangzhou Bonded Logistics Park, as well as more than 40 bonded warehouse and supervised expo warehouses, giving the city a comprehensive range of bonded logistics systems with full functions. In 2011, Guangzhou's bonded zones reported inbound and outbound goods of US$ 45.648 billion, up 42.78% year on year, and imports and exports of US$ 5.514 billion, up 27.64%. The bonded facilities handled US$ 3.305 billion worth of imports and exports, surging 40.72%.
Gross Logistics
In 2011, Guangzhou handled 647 million tons of freight, representing an increase of 12.82% year on year and comprising 454 million tons of road freight, 119 million tons of waterway freight, 65 million tons of rail freight, 907,600 tons of air freight, and 7,968,800 tons of pipeline freight. In the same year, Guangzhou recorded 677 million passenger trips, representing an increase of 8.20% year on year and comprising 511 million road passenger trips, 105 million rail passenger trips, 58 million air passenger trips, and 2,859,600 waterway passenger trips. Guangzhou has more than 1,300 specialized commodity trading markets and 1,352 international freight forwarding enterprises with international freight agency qualifications, making it China's largest commodity distribution center.
Port Logistics
Guangzhou boasts 720 berths (including 673 productive and 62 berths capable of accommodating ships with a gross deadweight tonnage of 10,000 tons or higher), a total quay length of 55,960 meters, a designed annual passage capacity of 287 million tons, a designed container passage capacity of 7.4 million TEUs, an annual passenger handling capacity of 31,310,000 people, and an annual roll-on/roll-off shipment capacity of 330,000 vehicles. In 2011, the ports of Guangzhou handled 448 million tons of cargo, up 5.26% year-on-year, and 14.4 million TEUs, up 13.37%, both numbers being the fourth highest in China, joining the ranks of the world's top 10 ports.
Third-Party Logistics
Guangzhou is the gateway for international logistics giants to tap into the Chinese market. Leading global logistics operators, such as FedEx, Maersk, DHL, Burlington, UPS, Nippon Express, Nippon Yusen, and Holland's TNT, have all launched operations in Guangzhou and set up regional headquarters in the city. At present, Guangzhou is home to 1,352 international freight forwarders, including 235 foreign-invested ones. Third-party logistics firms in Guangzhou are market leaders in China in terms of size and management prowess. Guangzhou-based logistics firms, including Guangzhou Shipping, Nanyue Logistics, Southern Logistics, Baogong Logistics and Yuzhu Logistics, rank among China's top 50 logistics businesses, and 43 logistics companies in the city have been certified as Class A logistics operators by national authorities.
Aviation Logistics
In 2011, the Baiyun International Airport handled 45,044,500 passengers, an increase of 9.92% year on year, and 1,523,500 tons of parcels, an increase of 4.76%, ranking second and third nationwide, respectively. The airport operates an extensive domestic route network and a broad international route network. So far, the airport has opened 507 domestic routes and 105 international routes, ranking third nationwide in terms of inbound and outbound flights.
