China Yiwu International Commodities Fair (called Yiwu Fair for short), jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade with the permission of the State Council, has been held successfully for ten years running. The Yiwu Fair 2004 set up 3,000 international standard stalls (including temporary stalls) with over 1,700 enterprise exhibitors and 82,667 professional merchant participants from 142 countries and areas including 12,312 foreign merchants. The amount of foreign merchant participants ranked third in the national exhibitions in the field of economy and trade with the trading volume of RMB7.43 billion, 62.9% of which is attributed to the trading amount of foreign trade.
Market Scales
The largest daily consumer goods market in the world with the operation area of 2.6 million sq m, 50,000 stalls, 0.2 million employees and average daily merchants volume of over 0.2 million, collecting 320,000 commodities under 1,502 categories in 34 industries, is located in Yiwu. The commodities of the market have been exported to 206 countries and areas with average daily exporting amount of over 1,000 standard containers and the market extroversion degree of 55% up. Yiwu market has become a trade, exposition and information center of international daily consumer goods and an important exporting base for light industrial goods in China. The annual trading volume of the market has ranked top for 14 years running starting from 1991 among the major specialized markets. Besides, the market was awarded the honorary title of the only market in the domestic market that honors quality and keeps commercial integrity by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

Market Facilities
China Yiwu International Trade Center is a new modern market built in conformity with the internationalized market development. The first-phase market, established in October 2002, covers an architectural area of 340,000 sq m with over 9,000 stalls and is designed for commodities under four categories of decorations, flowers, craftworks and toys. The second-phase market covers an architectural area of 1 million sq m with 13,000 stalls. The first 0.6-million market was established in October 2004 and is designed for commodities like hardware, electronics, electric apparatus, bags and luggage, clocks and watches, rain gears, etc. The second 0.4-million market was put into use in October 2005. With the total investment of RMB6 billion in the first and second phase markets, over 90% of the stall owners are engaged in the exporting businesses.
The first and second phase International Trade Center, equipped with modern facilities, adopts the advanced design concepts for international large business centers and performs complete functions with commodity purchasing center, direct sales center for manufacturing enterprises, E-commerce center, shopping tourist center, etc. Automobiles can enter every floor of the International Trade Center directly. Various auxiliary service facilities were also set up around the Center including customs, finance, catering, storage, logistics and hotels. The Center is the market with the highest level of modernization, informationization and internationalization in China and one of the international markets that enjoy high international awareness.
Advantages in Exhibitions
Yiwu International Convention and Exhibition Center, equipped with advanced facilities including central air-conditioning system and closed-circuit TV monitoring system, covers an architectural area of 46,500 sq m with the total investment of RMB150 million and 1,500 international stalls. In 2004, the Center totally held 24 exhibitions of all kinds and over 10 national conventions. And 15 national industrial associations and renowned exhibition organizations at home and abroad held exhibitions in Yiwu.
