ATAHK reads from Shenzhen Daily that Shenzhen will launch its first English-language web portal, www.eyeshenzhen.com, at a ceremony in Wuzhou Guest House, Futian District, today.

Nearly 100 expats will attend the ceremony with senior government officials and reporters from over 30 media organizations.

One of the key projects of the “Shenzhen Cultural Innovative Development Plan Until 2020,” EYESHENZHEN is Shenzhen’s first English-language web portal. It is run by the Shenzhen Daily, Shenzhen’s only English-language newspaper.

It will serve expats in Shenzhen, providing information about investment and employment.

The web portal has four sections: Profile, Guide for Residents, Business and Things to Do. It covers information ranging from a city introduction, information about public services, business opportunities to leisure and lifestyle information. It will gradually set up an e-service platform to connect government departments to help expats deal with visa applications, certificates and paying taxes.

According to Dong Haitao, editor-in-chief of the Shenzhen Daily, the name “EYESHENZHEN” implies that people can take a close look at Shenzhen through the website. “EYE” is the acronym for equality, youth and excellence — qualities innate in Shenzhen. The pronunciation resembles “爱深圳” in Chinese, which means “to love Shenzhen.”

Along with the website, an English-language WeChat service account will be put into operation today. In the future, an APP and Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts will also be launched.

With Shenzhen’s international influence growing, more and more expats choose to live and work in Shenzhen. The city now has 73 sister cities and friendship cities, and nearly 8 million expats cross Shenzhen borders each year.

The permanent foreign population in Shenzhen increased to 26,579 by the end of 2015 while the number of foreigners living temporarily in Shenzhen last year reached 1.152 million, according to the Shenzhen Municipal Foreign Experts Affairs Administration in April.

Shenzhen is also one of China’s top 10 most attractive cities for expats.
