Expats have traditionally relocated to China to fill senior positions in international companies based in one of the major cities, have moved there to start up their own business, or go there to teach English. Especially in Shenzhen, the fast-growing economy makes it an appealing place to move to for anyone seeking new opportunities in a thriving and lively city. Whereas expats working in Shenzhen will need to acquire both work permit and work-type residence permits. According to our experiences on working visa application, most of expats would like to ask what they should do in their country.

What kind of documents you should make in your country?
A. The original education certificate
B. Police Clearance Certificate

The two documents need to be notarized in local notary public needs to be stamped in the local Chinese embassy of your home country;

Besides if you are planning to quit job in your own country, we may suggest you to get the recommendation letter from your former employer. That would be nice presentation for your working performance in China Labor Bureau.

Even though we have underline the above key points, expats should ensure their passports are valid for more than the six-month minimum required by Chinese authorities, especially for longer stays.

The welcome news for expats this year is that no invitation letter required during working visa application.Foreign Affairs Office would not issue the invitation letter from April 1st 2017. You could apply for Z visa through the employment permit notice. If you are in China mainland in this moment, you could choose HongKong for Z visa which based on the agreement between your own country and HongKong.

It should be noted that expats applying for a Chinese visa from somewhere other than their country of origin will have to submit additional documents such as work or residence permits. Fees vary depending on the applicant’s country of origin and where they are applying for their visa.

Work culture in China

Chinese business culture is dominated by guanxi, a local concept that is a more intricate take on the Western idea of networking. Much time is devoted to cultivating and maintaining relationships, as local business people rarely do business with people they don't know and trust.

Related to the concept of guanxi is 'saving face'. It’s important that expats always conduct themselves in a dignified manner and avoid offending or embarrassing their Chinese associates at all costs.

Integrating into Chinese corporate culture can be quite a challenge for Western expats. The language barrier, in particular, may take some adjustment, and expats will do well to at least learn some key phrases in Mandarin.

Despite the challenges, the expats that do manage to successfully find work and integrate into Chinese working life report high levels of satisfaction.
