Chinese green cards, also known as Chinese permanent residence, are valid for 10 years - same as Chinese ID cards. With the Chinese green card, you've entitled the same welfare as Chinese citizens, including the ability to freely enter and exit China; work without a work visa; open a Chinese credit bank account; access to medical insurance; public schools for your children; house subsidies; buying a house, etc.
Chinese green card can be acquired by marriage, investment or work. According to our consulting supporting in 2018, we found that lots of expats would like to apply for Chinese Green Card but most feel passive to get it through working in China. Here we would like to share you that foreigners who meet the following requirements can qualify for Chinese permanent residence in Guangdong province.
Foreign nationals who have worked in Guangdong successively for four years with a cumulative total stay in China of at least six months each calendar year will be able to apply for permanent residency if recommended by their employer. This will allow them to have stable insurance, a place to live and the ability to meet certain annual salary and tax payment criteria. (Four consecutive years with an annual income (before tax) of more than 400,000 RMB would lead to an individual income tax of over 70,000 RMB per year).
The Required Documents
1. Valid passport, visa, four recent 2-inch color photos (full face without hat) against blue background.
2. Health certificate issued by the healthcare organization and authorized by the Chinese government or the Chinese Embassy overseas.
3. Non-criminal record certificate (it needs to be notarized by the Chinese embassy in the Principle’s home country)
4. Must be at least 18 years old
5. Proof of position title of the persons, issued by the units where they work (for a year).
6. Proof of personal tax payment from the past four years
7. A recommendation letter from your current company, which should include the following:
Guarantee that you have worked in Guangdong for 4 years;
Proof that you meet the standard of the amount of the required salary and tax payment;
8. Photocopy of the company’s business license and a certificate of annual inspection from the past four years. If the company is a foreign-funded enterprise, the certificate of approval of foreign-funded enterprises and proof of combined annual inspection for four consecutive years should also be provided.

Foreigners under 18 are granted a permanent residence card with a validity of 5 years.
Foreigners who have reached 18 or above are granted a permanent residence card with a validity of 10 years.
Foreigners granted permanent residence should stay in China for more than three months in accumulation every year. Whereas they are not able to satisfy that requirement due to certain actual needs, they should obtain approval from the public security administration of the provinces, autonomous regions or municipalities directly under the Central Government where they have the permanent residence. However, their stay in China in a period of five years should be no shorter than one year.
After preparing all these documents, go to the Division of Exit & Entry Administration Department of Public Security to apply. It takes approximately 180 days to apply for a Chinese permanent residence.
