One statistic released on March 9 by SAIC showed that also trademark applications ranked number one in the world, only 4 % applicants filed applications abroad; the international trademark applications were far less than that domestic ones.
SAIC analyzed that showed Chinese independent brands needed to improve the awareness and capacity to exploit international market.
International applications in some extent, showed the overseas investment awareness and capacities. The more developed in economy, the higher awareness for enterprises to register and protect marks abroad, and the stronger capacities for enterprises to exploit international market. Brand competition is already major form of competitions in the world. Only having international brand, could get the global share and consumer’s acceptances.
SAIC’s statistic showed that the applications in China ranked number one in the world. In 2014 domestic applications increased 18.2%, accounted for 30% of global trademarks and 80% of global increase. The registrations in China also ranked number one. In 2014, the total registrations were 1.37 million, accounting for 25 % of global registrations, increasing 36% compared previously. The valid registrations in China also ranked number one. In 2014 the number was 8.4 million, increasing 15.9% compared previously.
Analyst from SAIC pointed out that there was a big gap between China’s trademark economic benefit and the developed countries’. Trademark number per unit person needed to be increased, and also the trademark GDP economic benefit. Also there were many trademarks in China, many were trademark bubbles. Economic benefit produced by trademarks had a big potential for growth.
